My name is Tyler W. Walters. Thank you for visiting my online portfolio. I am a designer and digital illustrator living and working in Gilbert, Arizona. I specialize in creating standards compliant websites using css and xhtml. I keep the focus on usability, with intuitive navigation, beautiful designs, and an overall pleasant user experience. For the past two years I have been involved in doing freelance work and volunteer work ranging from fully functional websites from concept to operational, various types of print work, and identity/branding. I offer honest, reliable service.
I have been interested in design for as long as I have been using a computer. I am passionate about what I do. I strive to always learn something new and stay on top of the current design trends. My designs are simple, engaging, and effective. I demand excellence of myself and my work no matter what the subject or who the client is.
Outside of design and digital illustration I am interested in just about anything creative. I enjoy writing, drawing, and occasionally painting with watercolors and taking photographs. More recently I have been learning about screen printing. I am also interested in Capoeira, literature, history, net neutrality, and music.
I created the original layout in Adobe Photoshop and used XHTML and CSS to bring it to life. It has evolved quite a bit from the original version as my tastes change or I think of an idea to improve usability. It is completely web standards compliant. I decided a one-page portfolio would be the best way to layout all the content I wanted to present.
My process for web design begins with creating the website in Adobe Photoshop. I do this with the plan for the website in mind so the graphics and content fit naturally in the layout. I turn the large psd file I create in Photoshop into smaller image files to be used in the design. Next, I hand code the website in Adobe Dreamweaver using XHTML and CSS. My websites are all standards compliant and validated through W3C. The focus of my web design is usability. A website should be easily understood with the eye lead to the important information through the use of intuitive navigation, contrast, typography, color, and all other website elements. I tend to create clean, simple yet effective designs. I strive to give my websites a professional look without sacrificing the aesthetic.
While the majority of my work is doing web design I have experience doing various types of print work as well. I follow best practices standards when creating my print work. I create the designs using colors, resolution, and margins that will print with no loss of quality when they are printed. My designs have been used for business cards, flyers, tickets, and even visual aids for televised press conferences.
Identity and branding are hugely important to the success of a business. Consider companies like Coca-Cola, Nike, and McDonalds. Each of these is instantly recognizable from their logo alone. Having a consistent brand throughout your web and print work can go a long way to establishing an identity. This can go a long way to developing confidence in your company and can become recognized as a symbol of excellence. I can work with you to create logos, letterhead, colors, etc to associate a brand and identity with your company.
I am currently available for freelance designer work as well as full or part-time employment.
